Uber + MedStar = Driving Towards a Healthier Future

Patients who miss medical appointments or have to reschedule at the last minute frequently cite transportation as a factor. That’s why we’re excited to announce a collaboration with MedStar Health, the largest healthcare provider in Maryland and the DC metro region, to help ensure reliable and convenient rides to medical appointments.

MedStar is focused on becoming a premier digital healthcare organization. Through MedStar’s integration with the Uber API, they’re able to take a step towards this goal and bring technology to patient engagement.

Getting to the doctor just got easier

A “Ride with Uber” button will be displayed on MedStar’s website so MedStar patients and their loved ones will be able to quickly request a ride. They will also be able to set a ride reminder in advance of upcoming doctor’s visits to automatically send a notification an hour before their appointment so they never have to worry about running late.

“Patients expect the same level of seamless integration in health care as they do in other aspects of their everyday life. MedStar Health has a history of innovating when it comes to patient care and our integration with Uber is a step towards a future where technology-enabled patient engagement rivals other industries disrupted by digital technology.”

— Michael Ruiz, Chief Digital Officer, MedStar

This integration will offer patients through DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia another convenient way to move from home or office to any one of MedStar’s ten hospitals or hundreds of outpatient locations and urgent cares, all with the touch of a button.

“Uber is a reliable option — day or night — and regardless of where you need to go in the DMV. Our collaboration with MedStar can help patients better plan their transportation, and ensure they never miss an appointment because they don’t have a ride.”

— Zuhairah Washington, General Manager, Uber DC
